 25 years and still going strong Transformers began as a four issue mini-series published by Marvel in the US in 1984. It was so successful it ran for 80 issues, while its UK counterpart (which was weekly for most of its run) chalked up 332 issues. There followed (in 1992) Transformers Generation 2, a 12 part comic again from Marvel and then a 10 year hiatus until a little known Canadian company called Dreamwave picked up the licence. It was initially a massive success but two year's later the company was bankrupt and stories went unfinished. Since 2005 the licence has been in the hands of San Diego-based publisher IDW and once again flourishing, with a mix of G1 comics and titles based on the TF Animated series and live action films. |
